Milton Gymnastic Centre Expansion

Milton, Ontario was recently identified by Statistics Canada as the fastest growing Canadian community over 10,000. Having grown by 71% in five years, Milton is preparing to accommodate what is anticipated as continuing development. Like the Town, The Milton Springers Gymnastic Club, located at the Milton Sport Centre, has responded to a similar demand for gymnastics programming that exceeded existing capacity. By adding 7,500 square feet to the club, the Centre now offers a 40% increase in the number of class spaces, reducing wait times to enter into the popular program.

The exercise of adding the new addition provided an opportunity to reconfigure the main gym’s equipment to better accommodate training for competitive programs, youth recreation, trampoline and tumbling supporting a fun and safe environments for children and youth. Purpose built spectator viewing areas provide parents and fans comfortable seating with moveable glass walls that maximize viewing. New space also enables the Gymnastic Centre to host club events, such as, provincial qualifiers and invitational competitions a well as provide additional space for administrative operations. Staff spaces along the perimeter of program areas enable continual oversight to apparatus room.

Materials selected reference existing finishes and reinforce Milton Sport Centre’s a singular identity as a valued community health and recreation asset. This strategy seamlessly weaves together interior spaces and amenities between old and new. The addition’s dynamic exterior is an energized expression of gymnastics’ goals – to develop strength, power, grace and determination for the sport and life.
