The City of Burlington Robert Bateman School Renewal

A revitalized, reimagined, and repurposed building once home to the Robert Bateman High School will serve as a community hub bringing together City of Burlington services and Brock University’s satellite campus.

The Bateman building will draw visitors and engage area residents by collocating several complimentary community assets under one roof, capturing and capitalizing on synergies to create a dynamic shared environment. In addition to the City of Burlington and Brock University, other tenants will include the Burlington Public Library, TechPlace, and the Halton District School Board.

The multi-phase project will be designed to allow for sequential upgrading of the building infrastructure to meet the City of Burlington’s net-zero carbon mandate by 2040. Phase 1 includes shell space that can be fit-out on the first and second floors to accommodate future tenants or community spaces, and extending the overall life of the building.

The project is driven by Evidence-Based Design, improving interior environments by better connecting them to the exterior and promoting the well-being of building occupants. Welcoming and accessible environments are a priority for this community asset, resulting in upgrades that will ensure the building will be universally accessible after the completion of Phase 1.
