Humber College, Offices for Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism Program
With the move of numerous departments and programs to the new Learning Resource Commons at Humber College, a large amount of space across the North Campus has been freed for repurposing. This provided the opportunity to consolidate administration spaces for programs relating to Hospitality as well as the School of Recreation & Tourism. Now complete, the new offices are a rich mix of spaces that imaginatively promote collaborative creativity, productivity and community. Essential to getting this right was to clearly define with Humber, the work culture their new environment will support as well as the flexibility they will need to encourage new ways of collaborating. This is a significant change from defining where work is done to how it’s done.
As all work was to be undertaken adjacent to occupied space, possible issues during demolition and construction were identified early in the design process. Final construction documents reflected careful scenario planning that ensured continued safe operation of surrounding areas, and provided space for construction as well as adequate access routes for students, faculty and staff.
